University Research Park Area
University Research Park is a large office and research district established in the late 1960s, adjacent to UNC Charlotte. It is primarily a place people work, not a neighborhood where people live.

For anyone relocating for a job here, the useful question is which surrounding residential areas fit your commute, budget, and daily routine. This guide covers that relationship. We do not list current employers until we've verified them directly.
What defines the area
The park is organized around office campuses, wooded buffers, and internal roads, with access from W.T. Harris Boulevard, I-85, and nearby arterials. The organization that manages the park publishes current information about tenants and planning on its official site.
In recent years, planners and the park's managers have discussed adding more mixed-use activity. Treat any proposal as a proposal until it's built and open.
Living nearby
Residential options near the park include apartment communities, townhomes, and single-family subdivisions in surrounding parts of University City and adjacent areas. Short drive times are common, but they depend on which side of I-85 you live on and the specific entrance you use.
Getting around
Most employees drive. The Blue Line's JW Clay Blvd/UNC Charlotte station is the closest rail stop to parts of the park, but the walk or connection to a given office varies. Ask your employer about shuttle or transit benefits.
What to check before choosing a property
- Do a test drive from the address to your actual building entrance at commute hours.
- Ask your employer about hybrid schedules, parking, and transit benefits.
- Compare total housing cost, not just rent or price: HOA fees, insurance, and taxes.
