More than a commute
When the Blue Line Extension opened in 2018, most conversation focused on commuting. For many University City households, the bigger change has been optional trips: a game Uptown without parking fees, dinner in NoDa without worrying about the drive home, or a ride to campus for a performance.
The question isn't whether the train is good in general. It's whether it's practical from your door, at the times you travel.
Check the first and last ten minutes
Most of the effort in a rail trip is getting to and from the platform. Walk your route once. Note the crossings, sidewalks, and lighting. If walking isn't comfortable, look at park-and-ride options CATS lists for area stations.
Plan around service hours
Late events can end after frequent service winds down. Check the CATS schedule for the ride home before you leave.
